1975 VW Bug rev
1799cc stroker I just completed this weekend. Specs: Bore x stroke – 88mm x 74mm Compression – 8.2:1 (deck height at .055″) Approximate power – 100hp/110lb-ft EMPI forged counterweighted stroker crank EMPI forged I-beam rods (VW journal) EMPI 32mm filter-flow pump (Mexibug-style) EMPI dual EPC 40mm carbs (Weber ICT knock-offs, only a bit bigger) EMPI bolt-on aluminum valve covers EMPI straight-cut forged timing gears Mahle forged piston and cylinder set Scat serpentine belt Compu-Fire distributorless ignition Kennedy 1700lb clutch and solid-hub disc OEM German forged 12lb flywheel Bug Pack merged header, stinger, and muffler. Bug Pack flanged heater boxes (they do work well!) Engle W110 cam w/30mm lifters (degreed, of course) JB 1 1/2 quart oil sump VDO gauges (oil pressure, oil temp, cylinder head temp, volts) Case relief-cut for thrust washer (fits between front main bearing and case) Engine case, alternator, alternator stand, alternator backing plate, and distributor base painted Detroit Diesel Green by me. Pulleys, throttle cross shaft and levers polished by me. Muffler hit the #1 primary tube and sat way too low, right out of the box (way to go, Bug Pack…). Had to pie-cut a section of the headpipe to make it sit right and as high as possible. STILL hits every tiniest obstacle… gonna get a baffle for the stinger and ditch that bigass muffler. -Update- I’ve all but eliminated the off-idle stumble (tweaked the carbs some, but it really wanted more timing advance …
